Small business operators from Perth's northern suburbs have dominated in the 2001 Micro Business Awards.

The awards, which were held in Perth in November, recognise the economic importance of the growing micro business sector. Micro businesses are those with less than five employees.

Sponsored by the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC), the awards reward micro businesses for their creative, innovative approaches that enable them to compete against larger, established businesses.

SBDC managing director, George Etrelezis, said micro businesses represented 84 per cent of the State's small business sector. Mr Etrelezis said the award application process was a great opportunity for small business operators to step back and review their business processes.
